Ashes to Ashes made a decent return to BBC One on Friday night, according to the latest viewing figures. Digital Spy, Tuesday, April 6, by Dan French

The opening episode of the third and final series pulled in 5.5m (22.1%) during the 9pm hour, making it the most-watched programme during primetime.

Previously, series one and two opened to 7m (29.1%) and 7.01m (29.2%).

Earlier on BBC One, QI put in 3.96m (15.7%) between 8.30pm and 9pm.

Mastermind and Gardeners' World interested 2.32m (9.7%) and 2m (7.9%) for BBC Two at 8pm and 8.30pm, then 1.85m (8.1%) watched Indian Hill Railways from 9.30pm.

Over on ITV1, the half-hour Countrywise took 3.45m (14.3%) at 8pm, then The Door pulled in 3.59m (14.4%) during the 9pm hour.

A Place In The Sun drew 1.08m (4.4%) for Channel 4 at 8pm, then the audience climbed to 1.97m (7.9%) during the 9pm screening of Embarrassing Bodies.

Highland Emergency and The Mentalist attracted 886k (3.6%) and 1.72m (6.9%) to Five at 8pm and 9pm respectively.

Overall, BBC One edged primetime with an average share of 21.4% to ITV1's 20%. BBC Two was third with 7.9%, followed by Channel 4 with 5.5% (+1: 0.9%) and Five's 4.2%.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Lost grabbed 479k (1.9%) for Sky1 during the 9pm hour.
